Marin Islands and Richmond San Rafael Bridge at Night

I rarely see a picture of East Marin Island and West Marin Island - probably for a good reason. They are little unpretentious islands that nobody notices. One night, I was driving on Point San Pedro Road in San Rafael and decided to stop for some photos. The cars on Richmond (San Rafael) Bridge providing background lighting, a long exposure captured some interesting reflection.

Mt Tam Seen From John F McInnis Park

This was taken on Sept. 19th as sun was setting behind the Mt. Tam mostly covered in rolling fog. I had a good long practice at the driving range when I saw the sun light defusing through the fog and reflected on the water. Fortunately, I had my camera and tripod and was able to get few shots off.

Another night shot from Point San Pedro, San Rafael looking westward. Around 11 pm, there isn’t many place where you can get a shot of Mt. Tam.

It was tricky to find a place without direct light - I left shutter open over 2 minutes - any direct light would glow too much and take over the picture.

Manual mode with f/8 (typically the sharpest point for lens).

Into The City, San Francisco, Part 3

Third time is not a charm with this picture. Third try and I still can’t get a good shot of the city. This is taken on Mariposa Street over-looking 280 on March 25, 2008.

This was taken with Nikon D300 and 50mm f/1.8D. Manual mode, f/11 at 20 seconds.

Inverness, Marin County

40 Miles north of San Francisco, tucked away in beautiful Marin is a little town called Inverness. Calm bay water and very little local traffic make this an ideal weekend location. There were a birthday party and an old man with fishing rod and a golden retriever when we arrived.

Poppy Ridge Golf Course, Livermore, CA

Owned and operated by NCGA (Northern California Golf Association), Poppy Ridge is a popular course for a number of NCGA related qualifiers. I played there for the second time in my short golf life on June 16th.

As beautiful as the course may appear to be, it’s a monster of a course. The tolerance level for any inaccuracy is so low that nothing but a perfectly executed shot has any chance of seeing a par for the hole.

Here is the 9th hole on Merlot - a par 5 with a severely elevated tee shot:

And the 9th hold of Chardonnay - another par 5 with hazard to the right and water to the left of the hole:

China Camp, San Rafael

Another shot of China Camp State Park in San Rafael. This one was taken with Nikon F4s on a Velvia 100 slide film - took me a while to get it processed and scanned. Color saturations and high contrast is mainly due to the film itself.

Emeryville after Sunset

This is a shot of Emeryville taken from Berkeley Marina shortly after sunset. Thanks to telephoto lens, downtown Oakland is seen on the last layer. I chose cooler white balance to intensify the blues. The shutter was left open for 8 seconds.

Spring in San Francisco, Baker Beach

Spring time in Northern California. From Baker Beach, San Francisco, I saw a bed of ice plants leading to Golden Gate Bridge. I was itching to use my film camera, Nikon F4s loaded with Fuji Velvia 100 slide film, hence the over saturation and contrast.
